Palácio da Bolsa is located in Porto, Portugal close to the riverside. It is one of the most important architectural attractions in the city. The palace has a classification as a national monument receiving visits from more than 200,000 tourists a year. This building draws attention from afar. Its neoclassical style and exquisite decoration are enhanced by lighting, which produces beautiful color effects.

It amases by an impressive architecture in addition to many rooms that we can visit and admire. One of them maintains a close relationship with the Salon Arabe, since Gonçalves de Sousa received inspiration by an absolutely magical place such as the Alhambra in Granada.

With over 180 years of history, Palácio da Bolsa originated as a 13th-century Franciscan convent. Destroyed in 1832 by fire, the palace’s construction began under architect Joaquim da Costa Lima.

Serving as a reception for leaders and hosting events, it features Escalera Noble adorned with granite decorations by Gustavo Adolfpho Gonçalves.

The charismatic space boasts imposing lamps and a skylight, creating a solemn atmosphere. Patio de las Naciones, designed by Tomás Soller, showcases coats of arms representing Portugal’s 19th-century trade partners.

Gustave Eiffel used the palace’s Cabinet to design his notable Portuguese works. The President’s Room holds 1890 oil paintings by the Marques de Oliveira and a striking wooden floor of African and Brazilian origin.

The Room of Pictures, styled after King Louis XVI, pays homage to the Braganza dynasty and Queen María II. Her donation of the San Francisco Convent ruins made the palace’s existence possible.
