  • The Tower of London is not its official name. Its official name is Her Majesty’s Palace and Fortress of the Tower of London
  • The Tower of London was London’s first zoo. In the 13th century, King Henry III kept  exotic animals at the Tower, including lions, leopards, and an elephant. 
  • The Tower is home to the Crown Jewels. The Crown Jewels are a collection of priceless gems, regalia, and ceremonial objects used by British monarchs. The dazzling display includes St. Edward’s Crown for coronations, and the Koh-i-Noor diamond, one of the largest in the world. 
  • Resident Ravens are the Guardians of the Tower. The Tower of London is home to six resident ravens, which are believed to be the guardians of the Tower. According to legend, if the ravens ever leave the Tower, the British monarchy will fall. 
  • The Real Guardians of the Tower are the ‘Beefeaters’. The Yeoman Warders, also known as Beefeaters, are the ceremonial guards of the Tower of London. They are responsible for conducting tours of the Tower, guarding the Crown Jewels, and caring for the ravens.
