The National museum of Sweden was the largest investment of the Swedish Riksdag into construction in 19th century. Just masonry work took 6 years, so it is hard to imagine what sculpture adorning and highly elaborated interiors were worth. Today the permanent exhibition includes painting, sculpture, drawings and prints from 16th - 20th centuries. Applied arts, design and portraits from early Middle Ages until present day are also presented throughout the spaces of the building.
